A Place for Living Art

Nature-Centered, deeply connected

Hawk & Hawthorne is a boutique, land-centric performance venue in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina.

We host intimate concerts, workshops, talks and artist-centered residencies rooted in care, attention and presence.

We are an independent, nature-centered venue by design — focusing on high-quality, curated experiences for artists, their teams and the audiences who gather here.

For a concise one-page overview, download our Artist & Agent PDK.

Slow Music Lives Here

We often describe what we host as slow music - not as a genre, but as an approach. Performances here tend to be attentive, intimate and rooted in listening. Audiences arrive prepared to be present, and artists are met with warmth, respect and room to breathe.

  • Slower pacing allows deeper connection and creative presence.

  • Performances are often paired with workshops, talks or retreats so audiences and artists can meet in multiple modes.

  • We break bread, we connect deeply, and our lives are enriched with deep connection.

This approach invites audiences to be fully here, not just witness something. It invites artists to be fully present, not merely pass through.

The Heritage Barn

Connection Based Performances

Our primary performance space is our newely renovated heritage tobacco barn. An intimate, acoustically warm space designed for presence and connection.

  • Capacity: up to 225 standing or approximately 130 seated

  • Best suited for: song-forward music, folk, bluegrass, acoustic sets, string-based ensembles and the more spacious, intentional side of the electronic and bass music spectrum

  • Audience experience: attentive, listening-forward and close to the artist

The barn naturally supports performances where closeness matters. Artists and audiences share the same air, the same light and the same sense of container, creating shows that often feel personal, conversational and deeply held.

Ritual Hill

Large Concerts

Ritual Hill is our most spacious outdoor space overlooking Pisgah National Forest. The cedar wood stage sits in front of a stone circles, with alters to the four directions, and a fire circle in the center.

  • Capacity: 500+

  • Setting: standing stone circle around a central fire pit, with expansive mountain views

  • Production: requires additional sound, lighting and budget

Ritual Hill is offered intentionally and selectively. It is best suited for artists whose work benefits from a larger, open-air gathering and who are interested in creating something ceremonial and land-connected. When used, it becomes a more expansive and epic expression of the same care and intention that defines our indoor shows.
