Hawk & Hawthorne is a boutique performance venue in the Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina, just 20 minutes from Asheville, NC.
We host intimate concerts, workshops, talks and artist-centered residencies rooted in care, attention and presence.
We are an independent, lower-cap venue by design. Rather than competing on scale, we focus on creating high-quality, curated experiences for artists, their teams and the audiences who gather here. Our spaces are well-suited for performances and offerings that benefit from closeness, listening and a sense of shared container.
Artists come to Hawk & Hawthorne for something slower and more intentional — a place to arrive, to be well cared for on the road and to share work in a setting that values depth over volume.

At Hawk & Hawthorne, we design performances around slowness, presence and care.
Many artists arrive here in the middle of long touring arcs — moving quickly between cities, schedules and obligations. Our intention is to offer a pause in that rhythm. A place where artists and their teams can arrive, settle and be genuinely nourished before stepping into shared space with an audience.
We often describe what we host as slow music — not as a genre, but as an approach. Performances here tend to be attentive, intimate and rooted in listening. Audiences come prepared to be present. Artists are met with warmth, respect and room to breathe.
This ethos extends beyond the performance itself. Time on the land, shared meals, quiet moments and unhurried conversations are part of the experience. Whether an artist is with us for an afternoon or several days, our goal is the same — to create a container that supports depth, ease and meaningful exchange.

Care for artists and their teams is central to how we host.
Lodging: We offer multiple on-site and nearby lodging options, allowing us to support solo artists, bands and small support crews with ease.
On-site studio BnB
A private, 5-star rated studio with king bed, full bath, private kitchen and sweeping garden views. Quiet, comfortable and well suited for rest.
Meals
Food is an important part of how artists are welcomed and cared for here.
We have a wood-fired pizza oven and an on-site chef, allowing us to offer anything from simple, nourishing vegetarian fare to more celebratory meals such as roasted market chicken, lamb stew or shared farm-to-table dinners. Menus are flexible and shaped around the needs, preferences and budget of each visit.
We source seasonally, drawing from our own gardens and neighboring farms within walking distance whenever possible. Dietary needs are handled with care and clarity.
Land, Rest & Optional Experiences
Beyond lodging and meals, the land itself is part of the hospitality.
Artists and their teams have access to spring-fed ponds and swimming holes, forest trails that lead directly into Pisgah National Forest, and barefoot-friendly spaces to unwind and reconnect. Horses, gardens and quiet corners invite unstructured time outdoors.
For artists interested in deeper restoration, we can also help coordinate optional offerings such as massage, bodywork, permaculture walks or guided time on the land.
Whether an artist joins us briefly or stays for several days, our aim is the same — to create an environment that supports rest, creativity and ease on the road.

Hawk & Hawthorne is an intentionally held space, and alignment matters to us.
We are best suited for artists and speakers who value meaningful engagement, attentive audiences and sharing work in a way that feels nourishing rather than extractive. The performances and gatherings that land most fully here tend to be rooted in warmth, curiosity and uplift — what we often describe as wholesome revelry.
From a practical standpoint, we work best with artists who have sufficient draw to support a sustainable event. As a small, independent venue, we aim for gatherings that can comfortably welcome a minimum of around 100 attendees at an accessible ticket price, allowing us to fairly compensate artists, crew and collaborators while covering hard costs.
We are not the right fit for every project, and that clarity is part of our care. When there is resonance — energetically, artistically and logistically — the experience here can be deeply rewarding for everyone involved.

We see ourselves as part of a larger cultural ecosystem, not in competition with it.
Hawk & Hawthorne often works in parallel with larger venues and presenters in the Asheville area, offering artists a complementary experience while they are in town. Our scale and setting make us particularly well suited for intimate side offerings — solo or acoustic sets, workshops, conversations, songwriting circles or exploratory projects that sit alongside a larger headline performance elsewhere.
This collaborative approach allows artists to deepen their time in the region without navigating competing interests or non-compete concerns. When aligned, these partnerships enrich the experience for artists, audiences and fellow venues alike.
We are always open to thoughtful collaboration and see our role as helping make an artist’s Asheville stop more spacious, meaningful and creatively satisfying.

Hawk & Hawthorne grows in conversation with our community.
Many of the artists and speakers we host are introduced to us through people who attend gatherings here, follow our work or feel a genuine resonance between an artist’s offering and this place. We welcome those connections and see them as part of how the space stays alive and responsive.
If you are a patron, supporter or collaborator and would love to see a particular artist, speaker or teacher here, we invite you to share that with us. These suggestions help us sense where there is natural curiosity and alignment within the community.
We often share aggregated community interest with artists and agents as part of our booking conversations, especially when exploring new or exploratory offerings.
